Introducing Sanctum Garden Studios

Sanctum Garden Studios’ Contemporary and Urban ranges are popular choices for use as garden music rooms. Their insulated, multi-layer structures offer strong acoustic performance as standard, making them ideal for a range of musical uses — from drumming and band practice to mixing and recording.

Following a free initial design consultation, the Sanctum team will discuss your acoustic goals and suggest the combination of features best suited to your space and budget. Optional upgrades include replacing the standard insulation with Rockwool acoustic batts, adding high-density soundproofing membranes and board layers, and upgrading doors and windows to acoustic glass, which can reduce sound transmission by up to 60% compared with standard glazing.

Glazing layouts are discussed carefully at the design stage to balance light, views, and acoustic control. Sanctum’s approach ensures each building feels bright and connected to the garden while maintaining the quiet required for music production or rehearsal.

Design

The design process begins with a free consultation to understand your intended use, layout preferences, and soundproofing needs. The Sanctum team will guide you through the available acoustic upgrades and finishes, helping you configure a studio that meets both aesthetic and functional goals. Options include Western Red Cedar cladding, composite weatherboards, and a choice of internal finishes from plasterboard to wipe-clean melamine.

For clients seeking a tailored space, Sanctum also offers a bespoke design service that can incorporate canopies, covered seating areas, or custom architectural features.

Size & Layouts

Sanctum Garden Studios’ buildings range from compact pod-style designs, such as the QuadPod (starting from 1.8m x 1.8m), to larger Contemporary and Urban studios that can be customised in size and layout. Partition walls can be added to divide spaces for recording, storage, or dual-purpose use. All designs are created for Permitted Development compliance, with support provided for planning applications where required.

ROOFLINES

Sanctum Garden Studios specialises in mono-pitched rooflines that keep buildings within the 2.5m Permitted Development limit. The Contemporary and Urban ranges are available with either an overhang or cubed roof style, offering flexibility in appearance and internal height.

APPROVAL PROCESS

Buildings are designed to comply with Permitted Development rules. Should your project require planning permission due to size, height, or location, Sanctum provides the necessary information to support your application.

SERVICE

Each Sanctum Garden Studio includes its own foundation system, requiring only a level, cleared site before installation. The streamlined installation process allows some ranges to be completed in as little as a day. Studios come pre-wired with internal lighting, sockets, and an external junction box ready for connection by your local electrician.

STRUCTURE

Sanctum Garden Studios use a durable, insulated “sandwich” panel system with five layers combining structural framing and insulation for year-round comfort. Acoustic upgrades can include Rockwool insulation, high-density soundproofing membranes, and additional internal layers. Roof finishes vary by range, using either low-maintenance insulated metal panels or EPDM coverings with long service lives.

SITE CHALLENGES

Sanctum Garden Studios foundation system can be adapted to most garden conditions, including existing concrete slabs, provided the area is level and vegetation-free. Their experienced in-house installation team travels across the UK, ensuring consistent build quality wherever the project is located.
