Every building is constructed entirely on-site using a robust, multi-layer insulated timber frame system. This approach allows complete flexibility during construction, enabling structural reinforcements to be added for wall- or ceiling-mounted fitness equipment, mirrors, or specialist installations. Ark’s portfolio includes mono-pitched designs with clean, contemporary lines and dual-pitched roof buildings that create impressive vaulted ceilings, ideal for exercise spaces requiring headroom.
Their bespoke service extends to incorporating sauna pods, shower rooms, and changing areas, with all groundwork, service connections, and certification handled in-house. Design

Size & Layouts
Ark Design Build offers small to extra-large footprints, tailoring each layout to the garden and intended activities. Partition walls can divide the space into zones for exercise, relaxation, or changing, while open-plan designs maximise light and flow. Door and window placements are flexible for privacy or ventilation, and taller rooflines can be specified where additional height is needed for gym equipment. Projects are planned for Permitted Development compliance, with planning applications handled when approval is required.
ROOFLINES
Clients can choose between mono-pitched or dual-pitched rooflines. Mono-pitched designs provide a sleek, modern profile, while dual-pitched roofs create vaulted interiors with excellent headroom for gym activities. Both can be built within Permitted Development limits, and where taller designs are preferred, Ark Design Build manages the planning approval process as part of their turnkey service.
APPROVAL PROCESS
All designs are created with Permitted Development in mind, but Ark Design Build is highly experienced in securing full planning consent when required. The team also handles Building Regulations sign-off for projects that include plumbing, saunas, or complex electrical installations, ensuring a smooth and compliant process from start to finish.

STRUCTURE
Constructed entirely on-site, each building uses a high-spec multi-layer insulated timber frame for strength, comfort, and efficiency. Structural reinforcements can be built in for mounted fitness equipment or ceiling-hung systems. The electrical installation includes Cat 6 data cabling and LED lighting, with optional acoustic and thermal upgrades. Exterior cladding options include timber or composite boards, and interiors are finished with plaster or panelling to the client’s preference.
SITE CHALLENGES
Ark Design Build is experienced in working with sloping or irregular plots and around established trees, adapting foundations and layouts to ensure the building sits naturally within its surroundings. Their on-site construction approach allows flexibility even on challenging garden sites.
