Introducing Miniature Manors

Established in 2008, Miniature Manors specialises in bespoke garden studios, focusing their work in Surrey, East Sussex, and West Sussex. This regional approach allows the team to devote detailed attention to each project, ensuring every building is crafted to suit both the setting and the intended creative use.

They have experience designing for a wide range of creative mediums, from compact studios for painting, drawing, or sewing, to larger multi-room spaces that can accommodate pottery, sculpture, or mixed-media work. Partition walls can create practical zones such as a main studio and a separate storage room. Sinks, cloakrooms, shower rooms, and kitchens can also be integrated to make a studio more self-contained.

Soundproofing measures are available for noise-sensitive activities, while glazing can be positioned to optimise natural light for creative work. With a flexible approach, Miniature Manors adapts each design to the client’s working style, design preferences, and garden.

Design

Every design is a collaborative process, with flexibility across layout, glazing, and finishes. Soundproofing can be incorporated where needed, while external cladding options include Western Red Cedar, composite profiles, Hardie Plank, and corrugated metal. Clients can choose traditional detailing or clean-lined modern finishes. Internally, options range from plastered and painted walls to minimalist Birch plywood, paired with laminate or engineered wood flooring. Miniature Manors also advises on durable finishes such as rubber flooring where suitable for heavier or messier creative work.

ROOFLINES

Clients can choose from mono-pitched, dual-pitched, or hipped rooflines, each crafted by the company’s skilled carpenters. Mono-pitched designs can incorporate green roof coverings, while pitched designs can be finished with a range of tiling choices. As standard designs are under 2.5m high, to comply with Permitted Development, while taller designs for greater internal volume can be achieved with planning approval.

APPROVAL PROCESS

Where planning consent is required, the in-house team prepares and submits applications on behalf of clients. They also have experience working with Listed Buildings, where sensitivity in design and detailing is essential. For projects requiring Building Regulations, Miniature Manors manages compliance and organises sign-off.

SERVICE

Studios are built around a traditional insulated timber frame system, with walls, roof, and floor all highly insulated for year-round comfort. Roofing varies by design, with EPDM or tiled options available. Interiors are finished to a high standard, with options for heating and cooling systems to keep the space comfortable in all seasons.

SITE CHALLENGES

Miniature Manors has experience overcoming sloping ground with tailored foundations, designing for irregularly shaped plots, and working sensitively around trees. Their adaptable approach ensures each studio integrates well with its garden setting.
