Introducing Miniature Manors
Established in 2008, Miniature Manors has built a reputation for designing and constructing bespoke garden music studios across Surrey, East Sussex, and West Sussex. Their regional focus allows the team to devote detailed attention to each project, ensuring every building is designed and finished to meet the client’s exact requirements.
Miniature Manors is adept at tailoring acoustic performance to suit each client’s soundproofing needs. They can incorporate Rockwool insulation, ISO clips, and double layers of acoustic plasterboard separated by a sound-damping membrane. For enhanced control of sound transfer, they offer the option of dual sets of doors and windows fitted with acoustic glazing. When greater sound isolation is required, a decoupled internal structure can be created — effectively a ‘room within a room’.
This flexible approach means that whether the building is used for music practice, recording, or quiet listening, the acoustic design can be adapted to suit. Every project is delivered by Miniature Manors’ experienced in-house team, ensuring consistent quality from the foundations to the final finishes.

Design
The design process is highly collaborative, with the team working closely with each client to understand the intended use and level of acoustic isolation required. Options include durable timber cladding such as Western Red Cedar, composite materials, Hardie Plank, or corrugated metal finishes. Interiors can be plastered and painted or lined in Birch plywood for a natural, minimalist aesthetic. Flooring choices include laminate or engineered wood, and the team can integrate heating, cooling, and full electrical and plumbing connections where required.
Size & Layouts
Each building is designed to fit its setting, with sizes ranging from compact solo practice rooms to large multi-room studios. Internal partitions can create control rooms, recording spaces, or equipment storage. All projects are designed within Permitted Development guidelines, with planning approval handled where additional height or space is required.
ROOFLINES
Miniature Manors’ skilled carpenters craft a variety of roof styles, including mono-pitched, dual-pitched, and hipped rooflines. Their pitched-roof designs have been chosen by YouTubers and content creators, as the vaulted ceiling allows lighting, cameras, and microphones to be rigged and ready to use. Living roof coverings can be added to mono-pitched designs, while pitched roofs can be tiled to suit the surrounding architecture. Designs within 2.5 m height comply with Permitted Development rules, with taller options available through planning consent.
APPROVAL PROCESS
The in-house design team handles planning applications and Building Control sign-off where required. They are experienced in working on projects involving Listed Buildings or sensitive sites, ensuring all designs meet local authority requirements.
SERVICE
Miniature Manors provides a complete turnkey service, covering design, foundations, construction, and final fit-out. Their electricians and plumbers manage all connections to mains services, including lighting, sockets, data cabling, and water supply for shower rooms or kitchenettes. Each project is delivered to a ready-to-use standard.
STRUCTURE
Every building is constructed using a traditional timber-frame system with multi-layer insulation for thermal and acoustic performance. Acoustic upgrades can include Rockwool insulation, resilient ISO clips, acoustic membranes, and layered plasterboard. Externally, clients can select from a range of cladding materials, while interiors are completed to a high decorative finish.
SITE CHALLENGES
Miniature Manors is experienced in adapting designs to sloping or irregular plots and working sensitively around existing trees. Their flexible, site-specific approach ensures each building integrates neatly with its surroundings, regardless of garden layout or access constraints.
