Introducing Modern Garden Rooms
Modern Garden Rooms has built a strong reputation for flexible, well-specified garden studios offered in four distinct ranges. Each combines contemporary styling with a multi-layer insulated timber-frame construction that performs well for year-round use — and provides a good level of acoustic comfort for occasional music practice, listening, light recording, or podcasting.
The Canopy features an extended roof overhang that can be paired with a deck, the Concave creates a recessed and sheltered entrance, the Cube offers clean-lined modern simplicity, and the Border builds on the Concave with a powder-coated metal trim that frames the frontage. Each range serves as a starting point that can be tailored in size, layout, glazing, and finishes.
Larger buildings can accommodate multi-room layouts, creating spaces that combine music practice with office work, fitness areas, or storage rooms. Clients can also explore furnished examples at the company’s Leeds show site to better understand how each design feels and functions.

Design
Clients can tailor exterior finishes, choosing from durable timber claddings such as Western Red Cedar, low-maintenance composite boards, or coloured render. Inside, heating, lighting, and electrical layouts are included as standard, with options to refine these during the design stage.
The online configurator allows users to explore different sizes, layouts, and finishes, with real-time pricing and 3D visuals. For those who prefer an in-person experience, the Leeds show site displays furnished examples from each range. A bespoke design service is also available for clients seeking a unique one-off studio.
Size & Layouts
Modern Garden Rooms offers small, medium, large, and extra-large footprints, from compact 2.5m x 2m pods to spacious 10m x 5m multi-room studios. Layouts can be adapted with internal partitions to create separate creative zones or ancillary rooms. Door and window positions are flexible, allowing clients to balance natural light with privacy or garden views.
These options make the ranges suitable for a variety of creative uses, including occasional music practice, podcasting, or combining hobby activities with everyday work.
ROOFLINES
All four ranges feature mono-pitched rooflines designed to maximise flexibility under Permitted Development rules. Each range has its own architectural identity — from the Canopy’s extended overhang to the Concave’s sheltered recessed frontage. Canopy depths can be adjusted to suit the preferred look and level of shade.
APPROVAL PROCESS
Most designs are created to comply with Permitted Development rules. Where planning approval is required, Modern Garden Rooms can provide drawings and specifications to support the application.
SERVICE
Installation includes the foundation system, project management, and construction through to the finished building. A comprehensive electrical package is supplied as standard. Clients then arrange the final connection between the studio’s consumer unit and the house supply, or the team can provide a separate quote if needed.
STRUCTURE
Buildings are constructed with a insulated timber-frame system combining PIR boards and Rockwool for good thermal and acoustic performance.. This multi-layer build provides strong thermal performance and a reasonable level of acoustic comfort for occasional music use.
House-quality doors and windows enhance efficiency and security, while LED track lighting, brushed metal faceplates, and a 1.5kW heater are included as part of the internal specification.
SITE CHALLENGES
Modern Garden Rooms advises on the most suitable foundation approach for the site, providing solutions for uneven or sloping ground to ensure long-term stability and performance. Access considerations are identified during the site survey, and materials can be delivered in manageable components where required.
